Spaghetti and meatballs

A classic Italian-American dish featuring spaghetti served with meatballs in a rich tomato sauce.

Ingredients

  • Spaghetti – 400g
  • Ground beef – 500g
  • Breadcrumbs – 100g
  • Parmesan cheese – 50g, grated
  • Egg – 1
  • Garlic – 2 cloves, minced
  • Onion – 1, finely chopped
  • Tomato sauce – 800g
  • Olive oil – 2 tablespoons
  • Salt – to taste
  • Pepper – to taste
  • Fresh basil – for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente.
  2. In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, salt, and pepper.
  3. Form the mixture into meatballs, about the size of a golf ball.
  4. Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat and brown the meatballs on all sides.
  5. Add chopped onion to the pan and sauté until translucent.
  6. Pour in the tomato sauce and let it simmer for 20 minutes.
  7. Combine the cooked spaghetti with the sauce and meatballs.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add red pepper flakes to the sauce.
  • Meatballs can be made ahead and frozen for later use.
  • Use whole wheat spaghetti for a healthier option.
