  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • Royal icing (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the butter mixture and mix well.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until combined.
  6. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Cut out heart shapes using a cookie cutter and place them on a baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  9. Let the cookies cool completely before decorating with royal icing.

Notes

  • Make sure the butter is at room temperature for easier mixing.
  • Chill the dough for 30 minutes if it’s too soft to handle.
  • Use gel food coloring for vibrant royal icing colors.
