  • 1 lb chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 green onions, chopped for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, coat the chicken pieces with cornstarch.
  2. Dip the coated chicken into the beaten eggs.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium-high heat.
  4. Fry the chicken pieces until golden brown and crispy, then remove and set aside.
  5. In the same pan, add garlic and ginger, sautéing until fragrant.
  6. In a separate bowl, mix soy sauce, sugar, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes.
  7. Pour the sauce mixture into the pan and bring to a simmer.
  8. Add the fried chicken back into the pan, tossing to coat in the sauce.
  9. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until heated through.
  10. Garnish with chopped green onions before serving.

Notes

  • Adjust the level of red pepper flakes to control spiciness.
  • Serve with steamed rice or fried rice for a complete meal.
