Chicken biryani

A flavorful and aromatic rice dish made with marinated chicken, spices, and basmati rice, perfect for any occasion.

  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 500g chicken, cut into pieces
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 4 cups water
  • 3 tablespoons biryani masala
  • 2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1/4 cup chopped mint leaves
  • 4 tablespoons cooking oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak for 30 minutes.
  2. In a large pot, heat oil and sauté the sliced onions until golden brown.
  3. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for another minute.
  4. Add the chicken pieces and cook until they are no longer pink.
  5. Stir in chopped tomatoes, yogurt, biryani masala, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes soften.
  6. Add the soaked rice and water to the pot. Bring to a boil.
  7. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes or until the rice is cooked and water is absorbed.
  8. Remove from heat and let it sit covered for 10 minutes.
  9. Fluff the biryani with a fork and garnish with cilantro and mint before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, marinate the chicken in yogurt and spices for a few hours before cooking.
  • Adjust the spice level according to your preference.
  • Serve with raita or salad for a complete meal.
